OZBOT GRANT

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) recently awarded Jasper County Primary School (JCPS) STEM lab with a grant to purchase Ozobots to teach earth and space standards. Kindergarten is learning about the day and night sky. First grade is experimenting with the Sun on the southern and northern hemisphere and thinking about seasons. Second grade students are documenting the phases of the moon using these fun miniature robots. The Ozobot robot can sport hats with the planets, stars, and moons attached to the robot. The robot has sensors to follow lines. Students used orbit maps and an array of attachments to study planetary rotations. As the Ozobot orbits around the Sun, the students can observe and interact with these amazing natural phenomena. Students recorded observations in their Wonder journals to detail their scientific findings. This type of interactive learning is highly engaging and provides opportunity for true understanding. JCPS is looking forward to more adventures using Ozobots. Elizabeth Proctor wrote the grant for JCPS to be awarded this amazing opportunity. All the students pictured are in kindergarten in Ashleigh Johnson and Mallette Wilson’s kindergarten classroom and include (top photo) Taylor Breaux and Micah Bayyoud and Aspen Pratt, Raylan Monsrud, and Autumn Merritt (bottom photo).
