Playoffs Ready
It’s that time of the year—and I’m not really talking about the holidays, but it’s part of it. Playoffs for football are approaching, college and professional.
With the debut of the inaugural college 12 teams playoff system in place, I’m curious to see how this is going to go. Critics have long complained about the old system, and I will admit to being one on several occasions especially last year when my regular season undefeated ACC Champion Noles didn’t make it into the final four.
Now granted, their quarterback Jordan Travis had his leg broken in the last game of the season but geez don’t judge the whole team based on the misfortune of one player. Anyway, the Noles got mopped by the Dawgs in their Bowl Game but Jordan went on to get drafted by the NY Jets in the fifth round. I am amazed, but not really, how they went from a one loss season to a one win season so drastically and kept their head coach! The mental let down and the transfer portal was brutal.
On to this year, there are a lot of good teams from all conferences playing some tough ball—undefeated Oregon from the Big 10 with Indiana, Ohio State, and Penn State. Also, region favorites from the SEC with Georgia, Tennessee and Texas. We got the ACC’s Clemson and SMU, Independent Notre Dame, Mountain West’s Boise State, and the Big 12’s Arizona State. A nice eclectic bunch that will make for some good match ups.
This weekend, between Thursday Night NFL and the first round of the CFP beginning on Friday and continuing on Saturday, and then the NFL resuming on Sunday, will be a football lovers dream. I moderately like football and am looking forward to see which teams and athletes will rise to the top.
A big acknowledgement of talent and leadership to newly annointed Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. If there was any question about his chances of winning it, just watch his highlight reel from his first year at Jackson State University and his last two years at Colorado State, all under the tutelage of Deion “Prime” Sanders. Deion, a FSU alumnus and former Atlanta Falcon & Brave player, has helped script Travis’ future as if he were Shedeur and Shilo, his own sons.
And as far as the NFL, it’s looking like a good year to be a Buffalo Bills fan as they are peaking right now. I’m still rooting for the Eagles and a non three-peat for the Chiefs. I was with the Falcons as they got off to a good start this season, but it seems they have fizzled out a bit. Oh well, we will see what shapes up for February 9!
