Children May Receive Free School Supplies

Family Connection will hold a back to school rally on the Monticello Square on Saturday, August 3, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

It offers free bookbags for all children enrolled in Jasper County Charter System. Children must be present to get the bags.

In addition, the city of Monticello will have a Back To School Bash the same day, August 3, in the city’s courtyard beside/behind City Hall. The city will be giving away school supplies, and have music, games, and food. It is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon.

Vendors on the Square will offer school supplies to go in the bookbags. And, the regular Market on the Square vendors will offer their wares as well, possibly to a new audience.

Before that, this Saturday, July 27, the Monticello Housing Authority will host a Back to School giveaway from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 405 Funderburg Drive.

Children in Jasper County Public School begin classes on Wednesday August 7.

Open houses are scheduled for Monday, August 5.

The Monticello News will produce a back-to-school section with all the information needed for back to school and it will be published next Thursday, Aug. 1.

It will include contact information for each school, all the bus routes, news from school nutrition, and more.

The section offers a list of school supplies needed, sports schedules, new teachers, and basically all that is needed for the children to return to school.

Jasper County schools are growing, with new children moving in daily so several new teachers have been hired to handle the overflow, and building expansions are in the works.

All subscribers will get the special section, and it will be available in many local stores.
