Don’t Unplug from the Lord

I read an incredibly entertaining quote the other day. In light of the election turmoil during the last few weeks, the quote struck me as appropriate and spot on; it read as follows—“Would someone please unplug the country, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in!” Now that’s funny. Funny Ha Ha – not irony funny.

Now, before I go any further, let me offer this disclaimer; friends who know me are aware of the fact that I am not political. In fact, I despise politics, for all of the obvious reasons of decency, self respect, and common sense. I also have palpable disregard for the media—on any and every side of opinion and commentary. So my intention today is not to offer political discourse…I do however have a point to make – so bear with me.

If you have ever had difficulty rebooting your internet modem, or any other electronic device in your home, a suggestion of unplugging the thing, waiting for a few seconds, and then plugging it back in can really help in some circumstances. Not long ago I had to call the tech support line of my internet provider, because my internet wasn’t working, and the person on the other line began by asking me if I had unplugged the thing. I had—it’s my first go-to every time something stops working.

No internet—unplug it for a minute, No Roku —unplug it for a minute, A/C not working in the car—unplug it for a minute, Computer not working—unplug it for a minute, Problem getting the cell phone to charge—unplug it for a minute, Fridge not cooling—unplug it…actually, you should leave the fridge plugged in. If your ice-cream is soft—go get a new fridge!

But what I am saying is that the suggestion in the quote seemed reasonable! So I laughed out loud—cause what has been happening lately in our God-Given Nation is ridiculous.

Security is a real thing, confidence is very important, peace of mind is vitally necessary, truth and character and paramount—and there is only one source of these—one. Liberty and freedom—Liberty and Freedom are very big words, words that men and women have died for; our nation’s best and brightest have given arms and legs, sight and hearing, on the battlefield to insure that we all have the opportunity to live free; and rest assured…this battle is far from over.

This is why it is a tragic thing that the confidence of our people has been so shaken as of late – but let’s be honest; we set ourselves up for this.

Here is where I get real with my readers…it was never supposed to be like this—ever. As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and as a child of the One True Living God, I understand one absolute truth; and one that only comes from the Word of God. The Bible instructs us in Psalm 118:8-9: It is better to trust in the Lord, Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord, Than to put confidence in princes.

Confidence by definition is: The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust. Firm trust—firm… strongly felt and unlikely to change. As a matter of suggestion I would counsel that we all take a few steps back and consider where our confidence lies. We are all in the same situation—and only the eternal, living, unchanging, unwavering, loving and merciful God can be trusted.

As of late I have observed that those who have put their confidence in men and princes are feeling a bit shaken at the moment—not so much those who have put their whole hearted trust in God; and let there be no doubt…God can be trusted. He is mighty, able, constant, faithful; and He is the only, and original, source of Liberty and Freedom in the history of mankind. Plain and simple. Oh, One more thing! No matter what happens —never unplug God from your life; it causes all kinds of problems…much worse than melted ice-cream!
