3,100 Mile Trip for Olympic Flame
2024 modern Olympics, the flame began its journey on May 8 at the sight of the ancient Olympic games held 776 BC – 393 AD.
There officials used a mirror reflecting the sun’s rays onto the torch to start the flame. 10,000 runners will help carry the flame to Paris after a long route, passing by important sights in French history, including reaching French territories by boat. The Modern Olympics began in 1896 in Paris. When the Olympics were awarded to Atlanta in 1996, there was an uproar as the Greeks felt they were entitled since it was the 100th anniversary of Modern Olympics that originated in Athens.
There always seems to be controversy overshadowing the Olympics concerning cheating, drugs, politics, but amazingly each one also has the Thrill of Winning, hopefully seeing an athlete with Georgia connections winning a medal or two.
100 years ago at the Paris Olympics two distance runners became so famous that an Oscar winning movie was made along with an Oscar winning song, “Chariots of Fire.” If you have ever seen the movie to will forever have song in your head.
