Fun Weekend

I had the best time last weekend. Emily’s husband, C.J., and I went to the Braves game Friday night.

Usually when I go to a Braves game, there’s an incentive, like free bobbleheads or something, so we park, hike to the entrance, enter the ball park, get our prize, find our seats, get a drink, etc. This time there was no incentive, so we got to the ball park early and walked around.

I commented prior to the game that I had never seen “The Battery.” I hear about it, but every time I go up, I go straight to the stadium. Well, “The Battery” is a happening place with bars, restaurants, shops, and more.

When we walked past the stadium entrance that we would normally use, and went down the street, there was a bar which served indoors and outdoors, and we could hear the Braves drum line playing their buckets in the street. We got there right as they finished up.

C.J. and I had discussed carrying cash in, but decided there was no need as most of the vendors are card only. Well, there were several street musicians before and after the game that would have appreciated a buck or two dropped in their case, but we were in no position to do that.

We walked around The Battery, checked things out, and then we headed into the game. The Braves won! In spite of their slow bats right now, they managed a win.

After the game, we went back to Emily and C.J.’s, near Athens, arriving about 11:30 p.m. C.J. and Emily both had to be up at 4:30 a.m. to go to work, and I was planning to watch three-year-old Brystol. Well, guess what?

Brystol also got up at 4:30 a.m., so Grandma did too! We were already playing hard when Mama left, and Brystol wanted to spend time with Grandma. When Mama came in to say good-bye, she told her to “Go!” She was ready for Grandma time!

We played indoors and outdoors all day long. See, Grandma has no other obligations. I don’t clean; I only cook what we eat; I don’t visit with others on the phone or in person. It’s just Brystol and Grandma, and we have a blast.

She does test by agility and my strength. Up, down, up, down, hold me, chase me, up, down. Boy, this Grandma gets a workout while watching the baby.

She didn’t nap at all Saturday, after getting up at 4:30 a.m. We did “rest” for a little while Saturday. I was hoping Brystol would accidentally fall asleep while we watched a show, but not a chance. Her daddy got home before 5 p.m. Saturday, and he entertained her some while Grandma got a breather. Then she settled down in his lap, and watched a show. She was out shortly after 7 p.m. getting her much needed sleep.

Sunday morning when I awoke and headed out of the bedroom, there was Brystol. She was so excited to see me still there! It’s a good feeling to be loved by the little ones.

After we hung out a while Sunday, we went to eat, then went back home, and I left. Brystol had fallen asleep in the car, so I wasn’t able to tell her bye. When I talked to Emily later, she told me that when Brystol woke up she searched the house for me. I felt so bad.

But Emily assured me she was fine. And they got to have some Mommy/Daughter time. Toddlers are so precious!
