Where There’s Smoke

While you are making out your grocery list for the big Thanksgiving meal next week, remember to check the expiration on your fire extinguisher to make sure it is valid.

Or make sure you have a fire extinguisher. There are quite a few types of fire extinguishers that are made especially for specific fires such as paper, grease, chemical and even one made for your car.

There are all kinds of sizes. The label on the extinguisher will tell you what you need to know about how to operate, how many minutes it will operate, what fire it will put out, read label before it is needed.

This time of year cooking, whether in or on a conventional oven, a deep fryer, air fryer, or grill you need a fire extinguisher near by.

Fireplaces are a big danger if not properly cleaned of the creosote that builds up in the chimney. Firepits and patio heaters have to have constant observation.

Don’t forget car fires. You need a special extinguisher for those.

In many instances you can put out a small fire yourself.

Be careful, stay safe and have a Happy Thanksgiving, Monticello.
