JCHS Conducts CTAE Informational Session

Jasper County High School hosted its Career Technical Agricultural & Educational (CTAE) night last week. Members of the audience got to hear and see about the many pathways students of JCHS can participate in and how it helps students for overall career readiness.

CTAE director Tasia Ellis first spoke about the importance of CTAE and its positive impact on students. Mrs. Ellis presented data that showed over 80 percent of students are participants in a CTAE pathway. Of those students that do participate in CTAE pathways, there is a 100 percent graduation rate amongst those students.

The director stated that the most important goal for students in these programs is career readiness and that these programs help support and develop students to be ready for post-graduation, whether it be college or the workforce.

Next members of the audience heard from Work Based Learning (WBL) coordinator, Johnnie Sue Moore. She discussed what WBL was and how it allows students to take what they learned from the classroom and apply it into real world situations. She also mentioned the growth that the program has received, with over 70 students now participating in WBL.

Due to this growth, Mrs. Moore assumed the position of full time work based learning coordinator, the first time this position has been full time. The night then transitioned into seeing many of the different pathways the students could choose from upon entering high school.

Teachers from CTAE pathways Amy Scroggs, Nash Bragg, Karen Dotson, Matt Hyde, Nancy Williams, Casey Elias, and Tyson Harty also shared more about their programs and what they have to offer for students. Many exemplary students also spoke during the presentations and offered their insight into how the programs have helped them.
