Family Time in June

We are well into the month of June, something that’s always somewhat of a special month for me.

While many see June as a one of the warm summer months that some long for, I view June as a way to really reconnect with family and friends. This year is no exception.

On June 3, I got to see my brother, Aaron, get married to the love of his life Holly.

It was an incredible weekend full of love and fun. I had the esteemed honor of being a groomsman in Aaron’s wedding alongside a few of his closest friends.

The festivities started that day at 4 p.m. after waiting and hanging out with the fellow groomsmen for a few hours at the wonderful venue in Talking Rock. We all got dressed in our fancy suits and took pictures.

Following that, we waited as the bride and groom both began to get prepared for their big day. We lined up at 5 p.m., getting ready to walk down the aisle in support of the bride and groom.

Roughly 10 minutes later, after everyone had walked out and everyone was seated, the ceremony began.

Vows were exchanged by the bride and groom, in a beautiful usage of words on both sides. Once further standard vows were read, Aaron and Holly were officially pronounced husband and wife.

From there, the celebration commenced. A wonderful dinner was served, music was playing loud for all to sing and dance along with, and the bar was open for all who could legally drink. The moscato wine was certainly my favorite.

We partied until 10 p.m. when it was time to pack up and head back to the hotel in Jasper. We all made it back nice and safe with no interruptions…except for one car.

My dad was pulled over for running a stop sign with the newlyweds in the back of the car. Fortunately, he only got a warning, but it made for a good laugh and a long lasting memory.

While the wedding was designed to celebrate Aaron and Holly, it also brought the whole family together. I can’t speak for Holly’s side of the family, but for mine and my brother’s side, it was great to see and catch up with everyone. I’m sure it was likewise on that side as well.

I got to catch up with my cousins, one being a second cousin who lives in Florida. Her name is Fran, and there’s never a dull moment with her. I also got to spend a lot of time with my grandparents on my Mom’s side of the family. That was the most time I’ve got to spend with them in many years.

My birthday is coming up on Sunday, the same day as Father’s Day. I plan to celebrate it on the day before, with a get together with family for lunch, and a party with friends at my house in Milledgeville. These things used to be rather automatic for me. An expectation that I would sometimes take for granted.

It’s moments like this now, however, I don’t take for granted anymore. With all of us moving in different directions in our lives, it’s not often we’ll have a present moment together like this. But in the meantime, I plan to soak in the times I do get with my loved ones this June and for many future Junes to come.
