Famous Dates in April
As we begin to move into the month of May, let’s reflect on the strange, tumultuous and anxious April. The following paragraphs are just a few of the happenings in April through the years.
April 18h, 1776 – Paul Revere rides into the Massachusetts countryside to warn the Minutemen that the British are coming. By the next day the American Revolution had begun with the “shot heard ‘round the world”.
April 12th, 1861 – Confederate soldiers fired on Fort Sumter off the coast of South Carolina to start the Civil War.
April 13th, 1865 – President Abraham Lincoln assassinated.
April 15th, 1912 – Titanic sunk killing over 2,000 souls.
April 12th, 1945 – President Theodore Roosevelt dies at the Little White House in Georgia
April 4th, 1968 – Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. assassinated.
April 19th, 1995 – Oklahoma City Bombing
April 15th, 2019 – Notre Dame Cathedral fire
April 18th, 2023 – Tax Day
