Erin Go Bragh

Friday, March 17th, is St. Patrick’s Day when you might see the phrase Erin Go Bragh on signs which is translated from Gaelic as “Ireland Forever.”

Of course for a really big celebration you’ll need to motor down to Savannah. This year the estimates of marching units is 280 and the spectators is 750,000. You can view it on you tube or on local tv station, WTOC Savannah. This will be the 199th parade in Savannah. Start time is 10:15 a.m.

The 2020 United States Census showed 34 million citizens, or 9.7 percent of the population identified as Irish. During the infamous Irish Potato Famine from 1845 to 1849, 1.5 million Irish immigrated to the United States. Some 22.8 percent of Boston, Massachusetts citizens claim Irish heritage.

But as they say on St. Patrick’s Day, no matter where you came from, you’re Irish on St. Patty’s Day.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Monticello.
