Another Super Bowl In The Books
Well professional football is over for now, with the playing of the 56th Super Bowl last Sunday. One of the best things about the annual sports extravaganza is the high dollar commercials that air during the sportscast.
There was one commercial that I think summed up how most football fanatics feel about the close of the season. It was the one showing sports bars closing their shades and shutting down until the fall while fans appeared to go into hibernation. It wasn’t a great commercial but it was likely accurate for some.
Here at The News, we always analyze the commercial lineup the day after. For me there were not a lot of spectacular ones, and was it me or was every car advertisement about an electric vehicle or what? One of those electric vehicle commercials did make my top three—the one with the robotic dog scouring the city for its new owner. It was cute and clever but if you ask me which car it was advertising I couldn’t tell you right off hand. So maybe it wasn’t a good advertisement.
Any Budweiser commercial with the Clydesdales always makes my list but this year’s was especially uplifting—encouraging us all to get back up when we fall down. I am an animal lover, though my guinea pig has been driving me bananas lately. It is like he has morphed into a small canine squeaking incessantly whenever anyone nears his cage and also when he wants someone to near his cage. When out and wondering about, he is always searching for something to eat despite being well feed. His new thing is finding the food bag and jumping into it to eat. I think maybe he is depressed or just lonely since losing his counterpart a few months ago.
Anyway now that I got that off my chest, back to the Clydesdales. Those big beautiful horses stir something in me and I was saddened when they were taken off the touring circuit a few years ago. I remember my first encounter with the Anheuser Busch crew. It was decades ago at a Nascar event held at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Another one of my top 2022 commercials also involved more animals. It was the Doritos and Cheetos commercial with the animals in the forest where the sloth chomps on a chip, grabs the the bag and discovers speed. The animals chime in to Salt N Pepas tune “Push It” as the fox breaks into dance. It was kinda reminiscent of the Budweiser frogs commercial from waaaaay back.
The Superior Bowl made my list too. I think it could have gone further though. They should have let the bowling match between Peyton Manning, Alex Morgan, and Serena Williams play out over two or three commercials.
Aside from the commercials, as far as the game it was just o.k. for me. I wasn’t a big fan of either team playing but some good personalities were competing. I have always rooted for Odell Beckham, wherever he has been. It was a shame he got injured but he did score the first touchdown, moonwalked in the end zone, and will receive a ring.
It was good to see a bevy of Georgia guys get some glory and exposure. It’s been a great year for Georgia athletes all around!
And say what you want about the halftime show—it was quite entertaining this year with its variety pack of talent.
