Christmas Is Coming

I did something I rarely do last night…I watched a Hallmark Christmas movie. (Jimmy was out of town, leaving the television channel selection entirely up to me).

And, although it is not unheard of for me to pick what we watch, a Hallmark movie is not something I think he would sit through, and frankly, I’m not sure how many I would enjoy watching. But one every blue moon is good for the soul.

I had gotten some of the Christmas decorations out to start putting up, and first put the television on Christmas music. I wasn’t thrilled with what they were playing, so it hit me to change it to a movie. Well, it worked for my mood, but it didn’t help me put my nutcrackers out.

As I’ve written in this space before, Jimmy and I are planning to downsize, so it will be our last Christmas in this house most likely. Which means, I may have to find a new home for some of my nutcrackers. You see, I collect them, and have quite a few. And, people know how much they delight me, so I get new ones many years.

Since Meme’s House closed I’m not as tempted to buy myself nutcrackers as I don’t get out much, but trust me, I have plenty. I have Wizard of Oz nutcrackers, and just recently a friend gave me some Peanuts nutcrackers. I have traditional looking nutcrackers, and very unique ones. For example, I have a woman shopping, and a woman gardener. (And, I didn’t even get them unpacked yet, but I know what is there.)

I mentioned Meme’s House. Many I purchased there have glitter and glitz; and many are traditional, ranging in size from about two inches to about four feet.

The one that guards my front door is made for outdoors, so it’s a different material, and it lights up. I have one that plays Glory, Glory to Ole Georgia, and I have several traditional looking nutcrackers.

And, I did get my Christmas wreath on the door, and my Christmas kitchen towels in the drawer and my rugs in the floor. I never changed out the guest bathroom to my Georgia theme, which I usually do each fall, but I do have my Christmas shower curtain up and the matching Christmas rug in place.

I normally send Christmas cards, and try to at least be started on them by now. I’m not feeling it this year, so hopefully as I continued to decorate and prepare, my mood will lead me to mail them. Of course, I may need to buy some, and am not sure if any are sold locally.

Monticello is getting ready for Christmas, and the festivities Saturday officially kicked off the Christmas season. Unfortunately, I missed the bargains, and the parade, as I was babysitting in Athens.

And this week, the Monticello Community Band will perform “Home for the Holidays” in the Jasper County Courthouse Friday, and Shady Dale holds its annual Christmas dinner Saturday. It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Every year, when I start my Christmas preparations…decorating, making Chex mix, addressing Christmas cards, etc., Jimmy grumbles how he hates Christmas. I told him many times I don’t understand…I do all the work associated with it, and we both love having the family together. I think he just likes to grumble.

I hope you are each getting ready for Christmas…and that the preparations are fun and bring happy memories as well as eager anticipation for this holiday season. It’s the most wonderful time of the year…just like the song says!
