Busy June 2021
It’s June 2021, and the world is very different from a year ago. And, can you believe June is almost over already? The next newspaper (next week) comes out July 1. My, how time flies.
But, I digress, already. I told Jimmy the first of the month that I/we had something to do every weekend in June. We had the rodeo the first weekend, and the following weekend, I attended a baby shower. Back sometime in May we received an invitation to a graduation party that was held last weekend.
And that’s where it got challenging. You see, my youngest grandson, Timothy Thompson, joined the Air Force, and we knew he was due for leave but they kept him in suspense as to when it would actually be. Well, turns out he graduated tech school the end of the week and was able to come home last Thursday (June 17).
His mom had him a welcome home party Saturday, which was also supposed to be the day for the unveiling of the welcome mural heading into town. So, I sent my regrets to the organizers of the unveiling, and debated if we’d make it to the graduation party. We agreed to play it by ear, and perhaps just stay with our grandson, or perhaps go on up the road to the graduation party in Social Circle.
Well, we ended up heading there after staying with Timothy for a couple or three hours. At the graduation party, we had barbecue again. There was plenty of good food at both places for sure. We didn’t have to cook Saturday night!
We are so proud of Timothy. He had a rough time in basic (as all do, I believe), but he held out, went to tech school and is headed to guard a nuclear base in Montana.
But I’ve carried on too long. What I started out to say is that it’s exciting for all to be opened up. For the newspaper, we get to publicize vacations again. It’s so good people now get to go on vacation, and they can take the newspaper with them, then share their travels with all our readers.
I have a high school student who started working for me a little this summer. I was thinking of sending her out Monday to “get a summer picture.” It’s a difficult job, sometimes, but every rookie has had to do it. Alas, since the rain won’t stay away, Adelyn got out of that duty this week.
My daughter, who is still on maternity leave, is at the beach this week with her two-month-old, and Jimmy and I have two of their dogs while they have fun in the sun. Living in Colorado, they have missed the beach. Since they’re back, they wanted to make the most of a short summer vacation, so they have.
My sister, Jenny, loves the beach and has been trying to make the right plans for weeks. She now has settled on two or three shorter vacations rather than one long one, I think. She’ll visit the beach later this summer, then again in September when rates go down, and children are back in school.
I was telling you about my June plans. This weekend, we have a wedding to attend in Williamson wherever that is. I told Jimmy earlier today I have to find the invitation because I have no idea what time the wedding is. That will finish our busy (for us) June.
Then next month, Emily goes back to work, beginning with the holiday weekend. So her first nights back she wants mama to help with the baby. She knows I’m not able to do it all the time, but for the first time she leaves her for a 12-hour nursing shift, she’ll feel better knowing both the baby’s daddy, C.J., and I are there to hold and cuddle and comfort, feed and change the baby as needed.
I’ll have Brystol by myself for a few hours, then C.J. will be home and I can hand her off. But it turns out Emily is working Saturday and Sunday nights, so I’ll spend Saturday night, helping out, then keep Brystol when Emily leaves Sunday to go to work until C.J. gets off work. Then daddy will likely be on his own.
I’m not the best babysitter. Not long ago I kept 15-month-old Melody for her parents to have a date. Guess who was up when mom and dad got home at midnight? Yes, you guessed it! Melody! Oh, well, can’t win them all!
