Cases Are Settled in Superior Court

Today, our little travel group was scheduled to fly to London, then Paris and finally a wonderful trip to Italy. The plans have been in the works since last May. What a disappointment for all!

I had to end up cancelling three hotels in England, one in Paris and five in Italy. What has amazed me is how all the staff at these hotels, events and airline have been so willing to help us with cancellations. I have sent messages to them expressing our disappointment and hopes that the virus will soon be conquered and their staff has been spared. I received messages over and over expressing the same sentiments for us.

I would love to meet all these folks that have been emailing me about cancellations and see the faces of those thousands of miles away of those who cared. There was Simon Birks in Leicester, England, Sissi in Rome, Italy, Bianca in Milan, Italy, John in Paris, Julia in Venice, Italy, Emauela in Sorrento, Italy, Sam at RailEurope, and Nello in Sorrento.

I had a wonderful conversation of over three hours with Michael at American Airlines as he rescheduled our group of six old ladies on 24 flights. As I have stated in the past, everyone knows about the movie, My Cousin Vinny. When Michael asked me for my address for changes, I asked him if he had ever heard of Monticello, Georgia and he said No.

I asked him if he had ever seen the movie, “My Cousin Vinny” and he said, “Of course, is that courthouse still there?” He said he had seen it many times. I told him, then you know exactly what our hometown looks like.

Never did I ever think that my sewing skills would come in handy in the way of making face masks. Of course, a real sewist has many yards of leftover fabric that can be fashioned into makeshift masks. So far, I have had nothing, but thanks for these face masks. I have read that they are only about 60 percent effective, but that is better than the 0% from not wearing one. What is the saying, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”

As news evolves on a minute by minute basis, many are reaching out to help those in need. You can do your part by helping your fellow citizens who need food. The Jasper County Food Bank is greatly in need as more and more come for help. Many of the elderly have had their United States food stamp benefits slashed and depend on the food bank.

Jasper County Food Bank director, Elizabeth Strawn, says that they need money instead of donations right now. “We are able to buy food cheaper through our resources.” Please donate money at Ameris Bank or by mailing a check to Jasper County Food Bank, P. O. Box 254, Monticello, Ga. 31064.”

For assistance with many services available go to Division of Family & Children Services, Georgia Department of Human Services.
