Thanksgiving

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, I thought it was only fitting that I write about the things I’m thankful for. But it’s so difficult to know where to start!

I guess at the top! I am so thankful for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Without the gift of love, given by the Almighty, what else is there? Where would I be today? And in the future? Praise God for His promises.

Now, where to go…to the beautiful world created by my Savior, or to my parents, who raised me to appreciate this life here on Earth, as well as that one in eternity. Although both my parents are gone from this earth, I wouldn’t be the person I am without them being there to raise me, and to be by my side in adulthood.

My sweet mama died way too young, when I was still learning about child rearing, but I did have the gift of my father well into my adult life. I’m tickled I had my grandparents for a good while too.

I am so thankful for my two beautiful, wonderful, daughters, and the joy they have brought to my life. I now have two wonderful sons-in-law as well, and most exciting of all, a little one on the way.

And, let’s not forget that wonderful husband who puts up with me all the time. We take our vows seriously, and after more than 17 years of marriage, we fit together well.

And, although I am expecting my first biological grandchild, I have already been blessed with four wonderful grandchildren from my great stepkids.

And, those stepkids are pretty awesome too. First off, they gave us the four grandkids, and second, they’re pretty nice to be around too!

Hopefully, they’ll all be at my house for Thanksgiving. We already know one grandchild has to work on Thanksgiving, and another one is up in the air. And, the stepkids have spouses, and sometimes those families want the honor of the presence of their children. So, we can’t always have everyone, but we try.

Emily won’t make it from Colorado, but plans to be here after she gets off work on Christmas.

As I sit here and think of my blessings, I think of Suzy Mitchell and my exercise group. We exercise, and discuss television, books, movies, and more twice each week. We always end with a prayer, and Suzy does a great job of thanking the Lord for the many blessings we have.

She often mentions the creature comforts we enjoy, and I agree. I am so thankful for a warm house to live in, and job to come to, and clothes on my back. There are so many who have so much less, and as this cold winter approaches, it is sad to think of the homeless. We should always remember not everyone has it as good as we do, even if we do have problems.

I am so thankful for my good health. So many people suffer from chronic pain, but I am blessed with the full use of body and brain, and only a few aches and pains. I do have to take daily meds cause I haven’t taken as good of care of myself as I should have, but I am basically in great shape. (Yes, round is a shape.)

I am grateful for the food I have to eat. Each day, we debate, what will we eat today. Well, isn’t it nice to have a selection? Some people are stuck with what they are given, or worse yet, what they dig out of the trash can. I thank God for my eternal question, what are we going to eat tonight. It’s so much better than the question, are we going to eat tonight.

We enjoy so many creature comforts, it’s hard to list them all. I’m so thankful for my appliances that make life so much easier. I love having a “lazy day” and doing five loads of laundry, a load of dishes, and bake a pan of brownies. At one time, each of those chores would have taken some time, but with automatic washing and dish washing machines, an electric oven, and other niceties, there’s not a lot of work in some chores.

I’m thankful to live in this wonderful small town where everybody knows everybody and we share in joys and sorrows, good days and not so good, and treat each other like family.
