Musings
The market opened Saturday. What market, you ask? Well, the Market on the Square, right here in beautiful Monticello, GA.
If you missed it, it’s o,.k., it will be open until the end of September, and much of the fresh produce is yet to come. But don’t put it off each week, thinking you can wait til next week. There’s different stuff up there every week, and those people get up early and set up to offer you their wares. Show them their efforts are worthwhile, even if you mostly browse, and visit with them. They’re good people.
And Pepper Boy Farms isn’t content to be on the Square on Saturday. It has opened on the corner of Greene St. and North Warren. It sells fresh produce, plants, and will add smoothies and other items as she gets moving along. And, it, the farm, has the fresh face of Erica to greet you each day. (Don’t ask me Erica’s last name, she’s my market friend, that’s all I know).
The market is sponsored by the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. Most people I talk to agree it’s a great thing. But, not so many people are there real often. So, support your neighbors!

I failed a my job last week. I did not cover the Monticello City Council budget work session. But I have learned one thing that the city is planning to cut is the recycle bin on Funderburg Drive. It costs the city nearly $10,000 a year to operate it, and the city leaders felt like it was a way to cut.
That devastates those of us who use it regularly and abhor the thought of putting our recyclables in the trash. I personally recycle at home and at the office, and it makes for little actual trash.
I recycle a lot of paper…not just newspaper. And, I didn’t feel guilty about drinking bottled water as long as I could recycle the bottles. I guess that will come to an end. It is convenient, but I have an insulated cup, I’ll change.

Some of you know what a big Braves fan I am. I love my baseball. But, I’ll miss them this week. They’re in Los Angeles, which means the games don’t start till after 10 our time. That’s late for me. I’ll be sleeping. But, I can catch a recap each morning.
For my birthday I asked for a Ronald Acuna Jr. shirt, and I got it. Some of you may have seen me sporting it at the market Saturday. Little sister, Jenny, is to thank for that. She’s not a baseball fan, but she’s a great sister, who buys great gifts.
I already had Freeman and McCann (from before his stint away), and a number of no name shirts. Of course, I have some for players who are no longer Braves, such as Heyward, Gattis, and Chipper Jones. I still wear them, but not as much as current players.
I also have Braves earrings—three different pairs—that I wear with my Braves t-shirts. Jeff Foxworthy said you can tell a lot about a man by looking at his t-shirt drawer. That goes for us women, too!

Speaking of watching TV, are any of you Jeopardy fans? That’s one show I really watch. Most of the time I’m playing games when the TV is on, and paying a little attention here and there. Not during Jeopardy, I stay riveted to the TV for a few short minutes each day.
Isn’t James phenomenal? If you’ve been watching, you know that one player has won 21 days straight, and he is a gambler by vocation. He’s being talked about on news shows, and various news feeds, for his unique way of playing and his gambling prowess.
The teacher’s tournament is playing this week, but James will be back week after next. Tune in if you get a chance. He’s fun to watch!
