CPR & First Aid

There was a fantastic attendance this past Saturday for a combined CPR & First Aid class that was offered for free by your Jasper County Fire Rescue Department.

The first part of the day we covered how to assess whether someone even needs CPR, performing chest compressions on adults, children, and infants; giving rescue breaths, and how to help rescue someone who is choking.

Participants from our community included pre-teens, teenagers, Girl Scouts, parents, grandparents, families preparing for fostering/adoption, and college students.

The second half of the day covered First Aid topics such as being a first responder to strokes, heart attacks, splinting traumatic injuries, applying a tourniquet, and more!

Everyone learned a lot and felt confident when they left that they could step in and help someone who was having a medical emergency or traumatic injury. It all starts with preparedness. Preparedness breeds confidence; confidence breeds action; action breeds making a real difference in someone’s life.

I hope you will sign up when the next class is offered, get prepared. You never know when you will need it to save a life.
