Band Students Take Part in Janfest

Four Jasper County High School (JCHS) Hurricane Band students participated in the University of Georgia’s 69th annual January High School Band Festival, also known as Janfest, over the past weekend.

These students were selected to attend by UGA band staff and spent three days rehearsing music as members of one of eight bands comprised of more than 1,000 high school band students from across Georgia. After their auditions for band placement, students spent the weekend attending master classes led by UGA School of Music faculty, attending various concerts given by high school bands and UGA ensembles, and many hours rehearsing with guest conductors.

The weekend culminated with each festival band performing in a public concert. Hurricane Band members attending included J.K. Strength, Julia Aldridge, Will McElheney, and Kaitlyn Harvey.
