Reminders
I hope you and your family had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday!
The cold weather is certainly setting in and everyone is firing up their fireplaces and heaters. Before you break out the heaters, make sure you’ve covered the bases on preventative maintenance.
For fireplaces, have you cleaned your chimney flue? Checked your exhaust vent and covers? For proper disposal throughout the season, make sure you have a sturdy metal canister for ashes.
For space heaters, before turning your unit on, give a thorough dusting to the heating elements. Refer to your manufacturer’s directions related to how much space is needed around the unit and heed it!
Christmas decorations are going up and electrical outlets are getting crowded with strings of lights and other adorable items. But just because you CAN plug in strings and strings, strip outlet after strip outlet, doesn’t mean you should.
The expansion of LED lights and decorations certainly is a wonderful thing for both cost and safety, but you still must pay careful attention to how many strings you can run from a single outlet. Always check throughout the day/night and throughout the season your plugs to make sure they are not over-heating.
Another important thing to check both inside and outside wiring is that critters haven’t been trying to snack on them. Frayed wiring is a huge fire hazard!
And one of THE most important things is….yes, you’ve heard me say it before….SMOKE DETECTORS!! One inside and outside of EVERY room! Yes, every room. Get them. Install them. Today.
