Thank Goodness for Thanksgiving

Maybe it is the nightmare of opening the refrigerator a week after Thanksgiving and there in the darker recesses, under a crumpled aluminum foil tent sits the remains of the turkey.

Yes, just a few days ago, Mr. Turkey was the star of the meal as he sat so golden brown and juicy in the middle of the table or at the beginning of the buffet line, but now…

Trending, just like those Tiny Houses, comes the Tiny Turkey. Unless your party to a big family gathering, community get-together or just crazy about turkey meat, you may want to downsize to the most popular size, 10-12 pounders. Face it, there are only so many recipes for left-over turkey that really appeal.

It only makes sense to have less turkey with all the uber-popular side dishes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, mac and cheese casserole, broccoli casserole, squash casserole, creamy mashed potatoes, creamed corn, stuffing/dressing, don’t forget the jellied cranberry sauce and pickled peaches, both an acquired taste, and the pies and cakes.

Whether you are partaking of a traditional Thanksgiving meal or making yourself a turkey sandwich with white bread, mayonnaise and some deli turkey meat, the whole point to this holiday is to take time to remember to be thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving, Monticello!
