Veteran’s Day
100 years ago this Sunday, November 11th, 1918, the Great War officially ended at 11 a.m. that day.
At the time, the Great War was said to be the “War to end all wars.” Today, we recognize this time and day as we honor all veterans on Veterans Day. Officially, we will celebrate on Monday since the national holiday occurs on Sunday this year.
Have you a grandfather, father, husband, brother, sister, or other relative who served in our military?
My grandfather, Dolphus Hannard McCarter, was a infantry Doughboy in World War I, my father, James William McCarter, Sr., served during World War II as a cook, and my husband, William Donald Jernigan, served in the Red Ball Express during the Vietnam War. Most everyone can identify with a veteran.
Thank you to all our Jasper County veterans. And remember, you can see most of them pictured in the section inside today’s newspaper.
