Wear the Pink
During October many of us wear pink or pink ribbons, football players wear pink cleats. There are lots of reminders during this month that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Most of us have either had breast cancer or had a mother, aunt, sister, other kin or friends who have had breast cancer. Through research and awareness, breast cancer deaths have been greatly reduced. Early detection is the key say doctors. Yearly mammograms and self-examinations reveal many breast cancers in their early stages.
Our Jasper County Health Department is a good source for information about the disease and about mammograms and where and how to get them even if you are uninsured. Their number is 706-468-6850.
So many have said that they did not understand cancer until they had it. Unfortunately, experience does give one empathy. Educate yourself and be aware that detection is up to you.
Wear pink this month to show you are aware and to remind others to take care of themselves.
