Are You a Picky Eater?

An excerpt from “The Fresh Word of the Day” (Day 29), by Phillip D. Marks, Sr.

Psalm 34

“Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” (NIV)

Do you have any “picky eaters” in your family? By picky, I mean there are certain things they do or don’t eat. Some avoid foods based on what they smell like. Some say, “I don’t eat that” but they’ve never even tried that item.

Meanwhile, all of us have some foods that we eat more than others. You may be a person who loves meat. You may be a person who prefers vegetables. If you’re anything like my daughter or me, you love sweets (although it’s not the best for you it surely is good to you!).

Do you remember the age old saying – you are what you eat? Whenever I’m home in Monticello, I like to eat at the Blue Willow in Social Circle or Old Times in Macon. At a buffet, you pay one amount and eat as much as you want.

Well, in the spirit realm, I want to encourage you to become a picky eater. You don’t need to eat everything that comes your way. Eating negativity can be detrimental to your journey. Becoming a consumer of things meant to hinder, delay or stop your forward progression can be very harmful.

Developing a spiritual appetite meant to strengthen and mature you will give you the stamina and conditioning to survive some things along the way. Now, of course this takes discipline. Periodically, I’ll call my churches on a fast. Fasting will teach you how to train your palate to have a desire for what you’re eating. It takes 21 days to form a habit.

Prayer, meditation, and fasting are all examples of spiritual disciplines. How is your appetite and are you selective with what you eat? Remember…. you are what you eat!

PRAYER OF THE DAY:

“Dear Lord make me hungry and thirsty for you. I want to dig in your Word, digest your Word and delight in your Word. I reject any harmful thing meant to deter me from carrying out your will and bring a smile to your face. I thank you for a palate for the right spiritual food…

In Jesus’ Name…Amen!”
