Hydrant Flushing Has Begun
Residents of Jasper County not within the city limits of Monticello will be seeing Fire/Rescue personnel out and about over the next few weeks performing needed maintenance to fire hydrants.
Many times, the hydrants have become overgrown with vegetation that can actually completely hide its presence! The actual flushing helps clear the main water lines of sediment, the hydrants of debris, and maintain the outlet nozzles for efficient operation.
While it is understandably frustrating to have brown water come from your tap or while washing your clothes, it is a necessary biannual process to keep the system in proper working order for every hydrant across the county. Almost every fire department across the country has this annual duty to complete.
If you have a fire hydrant on or very near your property, please keep in mind that flowers, bushes, or trees should *not* be planted or allowed to spread within three feet of the hydrant. Please keep your eyes open for our crews out on the road and slow down.
Stay safe Jasper!
