Youth Compete in Reading Bowl

Piedmont Academy’s middle school reading bowl team competed in the regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl at Baldwin County High School last Friday.

There were 20 titles from the Georgia Book Award nominee list that team members were challenged to read. During the event, teams were asked literal questions about the books. The team with the most points at the end of the seven rounds took home first, second, and third place trophies.

Reading team coordinator and coach, Traci Brady noted, “I am so proud of this group this year. They were a young group. We had four sixth graders, one fourth grader and one fifth grader. This was the first experience for some team members but they stepped up to the challenge.” Other middle schools participating included Putnam Macon, Gray Station, Montgomery, Baldwin, and Morgan.

Middle school team members were Jamus Wingate, Rhett Harris, Ridge Stroud, Maggie Johnson, Sean Davis, and Jake Pope.
