JCHS FBLA Chapter Hosts Region Conference
More than 650 middle and high school Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) converged on Jasper County High School Monday evening for the Region 12 FBLA Conference. JCHS hosted the conference for the seventh straight year with students from more than 30 schools in nine counties participating.
Ryan Nelson claimed first place in the Impromptu Speaking event and will advance to the state contest in March. Nelson also advanced in the Economics event after placing 10th at the region level.
Ciara Christopher took first place in the Sales Presentation event and will advance to state. Miss Christopher also served as a Region Officer during the 2017-2018 school year and helped preside over the region awards program.
Kalyn McMichael took first place in the Word Processing event and Julia Aldridge placed first in the individual Parliamentary Procedure event. Both of these young ladies will advance to state.
The Parliamentary Procedure Team made up of Aldridge, Emma Jacobs, Mac Barton, Baylor Edge and Chapman Jordan took first place in that event, but narrowly missed the minimum score required to advance to state.
Others advancing to state are Ben Lynch who earned fifth place in Introduction to Business Communication, Keri Roach who placed sixth in Personal Finance, and Chapman Jordan who placed seventh in Introduction to Information Technology.
Others placing in the top 10 were Mac Barton, third, Parliamentary Procedure; Baylor Edge, second, Parliamentary Procedure; Emma Jacobs, fourth in Parliamentary Procedure and fifth in Introduction to Public Speaking; Chapman Jordan, fifth, Parliamentary Procedure; Keri Roach, sixth, Personal Finance; Cole Usry, third, Public Speaking; and Kira Gaver, fifth, Computer Applications.

Other FBLA members who volunteered at the conference were Calie Batson, Mekia Taylor, Nikki Dougherty and Hunter Duke.
FBLA advisers Amy Scroggs and Johnnie Sue Moore expressed appreciation to those in the community who volunteered to judge, administer tests, keep time, tally scores, and monitor students. “We could not have hosted this event without the help of our fellow teachers and members of the community,” Mrs. Scroggs explained.
“We had more than 50 people volunteering to help us, and their support made all the difference.”
