CodeRED
Did you know that Jasper County offers location-targeted, relevant notifications for impending severe weather, missing children, evacuations, or other important information? It’s called CodeRED. You can sign up directly off the main county webpage at www.jaspercountyga.org
Without any human intervention required, CodeRED Weather Warnings deliver advanced notification of severe weather events as soon as a bulletin is issued by the National Weather Service. Based on your preferences at sign-up, the system delivers voice calls, text messages and emails to subscribed users within the direct path of the storm.
These messages provide residents the extra time needed to take precautions and save lives. Alert warnings may include tornado, severe thunderstorm, flash flood, and winter storm warnings. The CodeRED alerts are often delivered before any other public broadcasting such as weather radio or television. There is also an app you can download to your phone for notifications. It can be downloaded at either the Google Play Store or at iTunes.
Shawnee County, Kansas had implemented the CodeRED system for their community and the Sherriff’s Department was able to alert the entire community to a rash of mail thefts and vehicle burglaries in order to help prevent further crime and keep the citizens safe and informed.
The CodeRED system is highly effective at delivering over a million messages at a time and also delivering them to only the affected locations. Your location is based upon your home address when you sign up. So if a tornado is expected in the southern part of the county, the northern part of the county will not get the alert. This system is provided for you to be informed as soon as vital information is disseminated.
Please go to the Jasper County website as noted above, click the CodeRED logo and get signed up!! If you do not have internet access, you can call the non-emergency line at the Sherriff’s Department at 706-468-4912 and they can help get you set up.
