Long Days of Summer
Summer has officially arrived, yesterday was the longest day of the year with over 15 hours of daylight. Do you feel a little dizzy?
When summer solstice occurs on the first day of summer, the earth is most tilted towards the sun. In only two months on August 21, the United States will experience their first transcontinental total eclipse of the sun in 99 years.Georgia will only have a small path in the extreme northeast corner of the state around Clayton.
Most of the time in the summer we have what the meteorologists call “pop-up storms” and these storms seemed to be during rush hour which makes for a slow rush hour. Rush and slow— does that go together?
Meteorologists are those who study meteorology and you hear that term tossed around lightly by our local weathermen and women. The storm teams, storm trackers, weather center, weather forecasters usually are good looking folks who look good in suits or short dresses, always have good hair and know how to point good.
None of them wear green, because they would disappear into the green screen they are standing in front of. Some of you may even remember when the weatherman would draw on the map with a pen, ancient history.
Weather alerts, take cover, your in the path, yeeks! Where to go? Take Bob Dylans’ advice, “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” Just step outside and watch all these terribly tall pine trees bending and cracking in the wind. Run the opposite direction.
Somebody finally got it right. Bless him, comedian, George Carlin, said, “Weather forecast for tonight: dark”.
