Old Man Winter
Well, we got our little taste of old man winter as he blew his fierce cold wind from the North and met with some sweet little ole moisture from the South.
Luckily, we only had to watch the aftermath on the news from other places as Jasper County was yet again spared the ice and snow.
Some early risers in our area told of a few flakes that fell quietly in the wee morning hours. Sorry kids who dreamed of slipping and sliding and building snowmen and another day out of school.
Maybe just the little bit of cold weather we got will do the job on those critters we love so much to hate, mosquitoes, gnats, chiggers, and other biting insects. Beware of those piles of leaves where our beloved fire ants like to hang out. Dang nothing kills those pests.
When the weather is cold, it’s time to get out a new comforter you got as a gift and be comforted. You’re bound to be getting some catalogs from seed and plant companies or perusing the internet while you dream of brightly-colored blossoms edging your sidewalk while eating a baseball-sized tomato from your garden.
We can all dream as the Bard and Bogart surmised, “The stuff that dreams are made of” or something like that. Sweet dreams!
Some use the extended indoor time to do some home projects whether DIY or something those home fix-it shows inspired. Someone told me that they were taking wallpaper off the wall in order to paint. Be warned most of these projects cannot be completed in an hour as we are led to believe by the enthusiastic home fix-it hosts.
Our local library is a perfect place to get your fix for home projects, arm chair travel, or exciting books. If you can’t find it locally, go online to Uncle Remus Regional Library System where you will find a million choices to be delivered locally.
With the trees barren, and a cold nip in the air, make a hot cup of cocoa, step outside some evening to see the moon through a haze of frost and hear a distant train rumbling on its way across the Ocmulgee River towards Jackson. Ah, winter, Georgia style!
