Happy New Year

Christmas this year, just for the record, was too hot and I do mean the temperature. Thank goodness, Southerners know to keep at least one pair of shorts out for just such a day, but really, Christmas in shorts. It just ain’t fittin’.

Each year some television station gives us non-fireplace people a chance to experience a roaring fire on our television screen to set the mood. This year they could have changed that to a cooling rain shower or breezes in the palm trees. Christmas Day 2016 was not a day to enjoy a roaring fire while we sipped hot cocoa.

And all year we, at least us girls, look forward to wearing our “Christmas clothes,” Santa sweatshirts, theme socks, funny hats, ugly sweaters, and vests.

Nothing doing this year. They’re back in the special place where we keep all these things until maybe next December.

One thing for sure though, 2017 is going to be full of surprises for us. Some of us will get a new car or house, some will get an addition to the family circle, some will graduate, some will start school, some will get some teeth, some will lose some teeth. Life is always going to be full of surprises and hopefully good ones.

As the countdown begins for the new year, add to the count all our many blessings, laughing with friends, traveling to new places, seeing a beautiful sunrise or sunset, walking your dog on a crisp morning, hugging, meeting someone nice in the grocery aisle and talking, giving a gift, getting a card or letter, finding some money in a coat pocket, hearing a song that brings back a memory. Moments in your life that cause you to pause and reflect.

Those are some of the things that make life, well, wonderful. Happy New Year, Monticello.
