New York City
Just returned from New York City. So many people, so little room. Not many in the 5th Avenue stores, but lots looking at the beautiful store windows.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was the star attraction as thousands jammed in to get their picture taken with the tree as the backdrop. There were some pretty good ice skaters circling the ice rink at the Center.
The cold wind whipped through the tunnels made by the tall buildings. On the last day there were a few snow flakes. No one but me even stopped to notice them. In fact it was colder here than there.
They had a fun event that the young folks enjoyed, Santa Con. Santa’s and Santa girl friends roamed the streets on some kind of route. One group all had gold sequin sports coats, red pants, and Santa shoes they said they bought at CVS.
We got a chance to go to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert which airs from the Ed Sullivan Theatre on Broadway. That place is like a church with stained glass windows and great arches on the sides and ceiling, 90 years old next year. Can you only imagine the talent that has been on that stage?
Big news in New York, besides the locally-residing president-elect, was the opening of the 2nd Avenue subway line SOON, first proposed in 1919. The other story was scaffolding. All told NYC has 4,400 buildings with scaffolding.
According to the proposed law, scaffolding can only stay up six weeks. The city department defending the law has had scaffolding on their building for 11 years. Good luck on that one.
Happy Birthday to my fellow Sags, Ted Dunagan, Serena Metzler, Marcia Golden, Charles Green and to all the others born under the wandering sign of Sagittarius
