Liquid Sunshine
What about that liquid sunshine that fell this past weekend?
The thirsty grass and trees greened up over night. And the oak trees that traditionally put on a show each fall became bright and beautiful. Even the birds were happily chirping and flying back and forth. Rain was just the prescription we needed. Hope we can get some refills. Rain is one of the most pleasant things in nature.
Pleasing to the ear? Have you ever been casually listening to a television commercial when you realized that the song playing in the background was very familiar? My father used to say things like,”the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
Back then I thought he was just blowing in the wind and didn’t understand what he meant, but now… The song in this automobile commercial is Bob Dylan’s 1964 hit, “When the Ship Comes In.” Peter, Paul and Mary made it famous. Now it is selling cars. And as for that quote from my father, well, it was first written in January, 1849 by Parisian writer, Jean-Baptiste Karr.
And speaking of Mr. Dylan, he will receive one of the greatest awards in this world, the Nobel Literature Prize, for his unique poetic songs as the judges described them, “Redefining the boundaries of literature.” Can you just imagine the poetry and music that swims in his brain? Dylan defines himself as “I’m a poet, and I know it.”
In fact, we just love to hear things that rhyme. And just in case, you never noticed, Hello, Monticello.
