Watch for Deer
Hello, Hello, Monticello, Monticello, hate redundancy, well, here’s the best advice for all citizens of Jasper County and it bears repeating, repeating, Watch Out for Whitetails.
Just this past week, standing beside the two lane road stood a medium-sized deer. Not sure if boy or girl…does it really matter?
All I know is that this deer stood and looked at me and I looked at, let’s just say him for a long time. Neither of us knew what to do. After a few minutes I eased very slowly past the deer who still stood there watching as I drove away.
If you have ever hit a deer or in my case the deer ran into me, then, you know the damage that your car or truck can incur in those few seconds and the very limited time you have to make a snap decision. After your cardiac or adrenaline rush you must survey the damage. You know you’re in deer country when you walk into a car rental agency and the first thing they ask is, “Did you hit a deer?”
That said, or written in this case, they, “Mr. and Mrs. Doe and Buck Deer” and as we all know living in the “Deer Capital of Georgia,” are out and about. Deer hunting season has begun. Just keep a close eye out for them thar deer, please.
Enjoy the fall, just a few leaves are beginning to turn. We finally got some rain, so maybe our thirsty trees will return the favor with some beautiful foliage. Who needs North Georgia? Just take a ride west on Georgia 16 when the sun is going down to observe Nature’s gift to us.
