Father’s Day

One of the first words we utter as a baby is dada which soon will become daddy, an endearing term we use for our father.

Sunday, June 19th is the day we celebrate Father’s Day in the United States. Surprisingly, Father’s Day is also celebrated officially in 63 other countries, some also on the third Sunday of June.

Father’s Day has become a commercial success with it being the second Christmas of the year for men-oriented gifts.

But what to give the man who has everything, he has already received the most wonderful gift in the world, YOU.

His special day is not treated as sentimentally as Mother’s Day. Old dad will enjoy just about anything he gets, power tools, golf balls, a hammer, a # 1 Father coffee cup, or a home security system. Hey, I am just the messenger, according to the internet marketplace, these are what dads want.

Most fathers are happy with a home cooked meal, laying back in the recliner, snoozing the afternoon away as they watch golf or baseball through closed eyelids. “Don’t touch that remote, I’m watching that”. Sound familiar?

If you can think back to your childhood when you would present your father with a homemade card made with construction paper and the words “Happy Father’s Day” scrawled in your newly acquired handwriting skills, you still remember the grin that came on his lips.

“Being a father is quite a bother…You improve them mentally and straighten them dentally. Their no longer corralable, Once they find you fallible. But after you’ve raised them and educated them and gowned them, They just take their little fingers and wrap you around them. Being a father is quite a bother, but I like it, Rather.” Ogden Nash
