Two Chosen for Governor’s Honors

Amber York and Savannah Fritz have been selected to represent Jasper County High School for the Governors Honors Program at Valdosta State University this summer.

Amber will be majoring in the area of mathematics and Savannah will be majoring in agriculture.

Over 3,000 students were nominated to the state level competition and nearly 1,700 of them participated in this year’s state interview and selection process. Only 650 students in the state were selected to attend the summer program.

The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
