The students from Jasper County High School competed against teams from Baldwin, Bibb, Hancock, Jones, Monroe, Putnam, Twiggs, Washington, and Wilkinson counties.
The JCHS students were awarded “Best in Show” for the competition and will proceed to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. Approximately 1,700 high school students from over 75 countries, regions, and territories are awarded the opportunity to showcase their independent research and compete for nearly $4 million in prizes.
Georgia College & State University is sponsoring the all expense paid trip for the winning JCHS students to the competition in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Bio-tech students surveyed gene frequency of sickle cell in the student population and this intense research earned the award.
Dr. Mike Newton, Jasper School Superintendent commented, “I was simply blown away by this group’s level of engagement, dedication, and determination as they planned and executed their sickle cell project!”
