FCCLA Youth Promote Charity App

The Jasper High School FCCLA Chapter (Family, Community & Career Leaders of America) is offering an app to the community that has many benefits to individuals as well as the club.

Under the direction of club advisor and JCHS teacher Heather Huff two students lead the project that records personal goals and donates to charities simultaneously. Adviser’s assistant Madison Rae and vice president of club public relation Kayla Henderson, have recently discovered the app “Charity Miles.” This app is free and able to download onto any device. With this app, one is able to exercise freely and donate to a charity. For every mile you run, walk, or bike, the app will donate money (25 cents for walking/hiking and 10 cents for biking) to a chosen charity.

Charities that are included on this app include Save the Children, Shot@Life, Girl Up, Operation Smile, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Habitat for Humanity, Stand Up To Cancer, Alzheimer’s Association, Feeding America, World Wildlife Fund, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, ASPCA, (RED), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Autism Speaks, Every Mother Counts, Team Red, White & Blue, Girls On The Run, DoSomething.Org, The Nature Conservancy, Pencils of Promise, The World Food Program, Special Olympics, National Park Foundation, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, Team For Kids, She’s The First, Soles4Souls, Nothing But Nets, Back On My Feet, The Partnership For A Healthier America, Achilles International, The Ironman Foundation, Vision Spring, and the American Diabetes Association.

When the app is downloaded an opportunity to choose the chapter’s group, @JCHSFCCLA results in all of the miles walked, ran or biked and the money earned will be credited for the local chapter. All the data (money and miles) entered for the group will help Madison and Kayla lead the club as they work towards the STAR ( Students Taking Action with Recognition) events competition, where proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparation is recognized.
