Piedmont Presents Christmas Musical
Piedmont Academy celebrated the Christmas season with an array of music and skits on December 1. Directed by the school music teacher, April Allen, students in grades three-year-old pre-kindergarten through fifth grade gave a performance. Three sections of this year’s program had specific themes related to the holiday season and Christmas time.
Kicking off the program was four- and five-year-old kindergartners, and they performed “Tell the Good News Jesus Is Born,” created by Ed Kee and Rhonda Frazier. The students also sang, “Go Tell It on the Mountain” with speakers Sarah Ellen Stroud, Abby Moore, Helen Downs, and McKenna Brown.
Next, was the performance, “The Angel’s Song,” with speakers Bella Harden, Adam Brimberry, Aubrey Kitchens, and Isaac Lockett. Their part of the program concluded with a solo performed by kindergarten student, Aubrey Kitchens performing “We’ll Call Him Jesus.”
First, second, and third grades performed “The Christmas Carol Special Report” celebrating Christmas carols around the world created by Rhonda Frazier, Luke Gambill, and Brian Green.
Their performance entertained the audience by singing “Gloria Medley” and included “Gloria!,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” and “Angels, from the Realms of Glory,” “O Holy Night” was followed by “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” to the tune of deck the halls with a Trepak-Russian Dance. Songs in this segment included “Away in a Manger” with “O Come, All Ye Faithful, and “Gloria Medly (reprise).”
The cast of characters in the skit included Jim played by Hudson Reed, Natalie by Natalie Sanders, reporter 1 by Gavin McCart, reporter 2 by Greta Wilkes, reporter 3 by Marissa Holder, reader 1 by Mark Myles, reader 2 by Dylan Brimberry, and camera man played by Daniel Harris.
Students in grades four and five performed “An Unplugged Christmas-The Biggest, Brightest Christmas Show EVER!” created by Susie Williams and Luke Gambill. They sang, “Biggest, Brightest Christmas,” followed by soloist Anna Grace Hinson performing “Born Is the King (It’s Christmas).” “Silent Night Rap” followed with rappers Dalton Wallace, Emily McEwen and Dakota Floyd.
The group performed “An Unplugged Carol Medley” with the songs “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” and “Here I Am to Worship” performed by Haiden Crews.
Soloist Stanton Harrison performed “O Come, Let Us Adore Him” followed by a scripture reading by Ridge Stroud and Rhett Harris and was followed by all performing “Joy to the World (Sing Joy).”
The cast of characters included Emma by Abby Arnold, Lindsey by Savannah Stanton, Goldie by Emily McEwen, Frankie by Dalton Wallace, Spence by T.J. White, Meryl by Dakota Floyd, Sammy by Joe Clark, Seth by Cole Clark, Vanessa by Olivia McAllister, Tessa by Bailey Mobley, and Mrs. Taylor played by Maggie Johnson.
Behind the scenes included high school students, Ashley Johnston, Madison Burnham, MaKennah Holifield; Traci Brady, sound; Danny Ramsdell and Will Tillman, lights; Judy Nelson, program handout; and set design by the high school art class.
