Spotlight on Washington Park Elementary School
This week’s featured Jasper County District School is Washington Park Elementary (WPES). The school is exclusive to the third, fourth and fifth grade students in the county and the atmosphere is conducive to excitement in education.
A quick stroll through the colorful facility will encourage all ages toward further learning. The halls are filled with age relative inspiration in the form of “minions” and the theme for the school is “We are building learners…and constructing a future at WP”.
Under the direction of Dr. Shawne Holder, WPES principal, the focus is not only on students but also helps parents to become involved with the education of their children through the “Parent Resource Room” available every day from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Another chance to connect is Grandparent’s Day today, Sept. 10, from 5-7 p.m. at WPES. This event combines food and fun activities for an opportunity for students to introduce their family to teachers and class projects. There will even be “dinner and a movie.” Parents are also welcome to attend.
WPES has many activities scheduled for students to encourage learning throughout the year and there are several ways to help WPES with raising funds through programs such as Box Top for kids, Tyson labels, Tools for Schools and saving aluminum can tops. (Ingles Tools for Schools has to be re-linked to the school each year.)
These items that otherwise may be discarded can help purchase learning tools that educate students for their life of learning in this high-tech digital world.
Washington Park also offers an after school program for students in grades Pre – K through sixth grade and their siblings, age 12 and under. A student can stay up to 3 ½ hours in a supervised environment. Check the school web page for further details. To access the page, visit the Jasper County School District website at: www.jasper.k12.ga.us and click on the “Schools” tab to reach the Washington Park Elementary School page. It is very informative and user -friendly.
