Bobbi Sauls Is Teacher of the Year

During the end of the year luncheon, Piedmont Academy Headmaster Tony Tanner announced the school’s 2015 Teacher of the Year as Bobbi Sauls.

Ms. Sauls recently completed 17 years of teaching at Piedmont where this past year she taught Advanced Placement (AP) U.S. Government and Politics, AP U.S. History, honors civics, and literary/debate. Additionally, Ms. Sauls is the director of the one-act play and coach of the debate and spring literary teams, and she served with Kirstie Lewis as the senior class sponsors and as the graduation coordinator.

Her accomplishments include leading her students to win many GISA region and state titles in drama, debate, and literary as well as helping many of them earn college credit in AP U.S. Government, including a 100 percent passage rate on the national exam for the last four years. She has been named STAR teacher five times by Piedmont students: Katie Cunard Tucker (2000), Lydia Morgan (2008), Trevor Wilson (2010), Matthew O’Brien (2011), and Carley Cain (2013).

Outside of school, Ms. Sauls served for two years as the chair of the GISA State Literary Committee, and she is very active in the music program at the Monticello Baptist Church. Ms. Sauls is a graduate of Piedmont Academy and the University of North Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Pre-Law.

Prior to returning to Monticello to teach, Ms. Sauls worked in Washington, DC, as a legislative coordinator for U.S. Senator Sam Nunn, staff member for Senator Max Cleland, and logistics department manager for the speakers bureau, Leading Authorities.

On behalf of the school, Mr. Tanner presented Ms. Sauls with a plaque, a ring from Balfour, and a gift from the Grandparents Club. Past winners of this honor include Mrs. Gail Sealy, Dan Funt, Alvin Hawkes, and Mrs. Stephanie Kelly.
