Baseball Season

Anyone who knows me at all knows I am a big Atlanta Braves fan. Even though I was very discouraged, like most fans, with all the changes for this season, hope springs eternal, and I love the Braves…whatever individuals make up the team.

And, the Braves game is standard fare on our television for many of the 162 games that are played each year. However, I’m not the night owl I used to be, so while they’ve been on the west coast the last week or so, I haven’t seen much action.

So, it was with great anticipation I sat to actually watch Sunday afternoon’s game in San Francisco. And, boy was it a game.

Without giving a play by play, suffice it to say after trailing for a time, then going ahead, the Braves blew their lead. Darn. Then, in the top of the ninth inning, our last chance, the impossible happened.

The best part was a booted ball that would have been a double play to end the inning but actually resulted with everyone being safe.

Then, one of those new players hit a triple, scoring the three men on base, and the Braves re-took the lead. They only had to hold on for the bottom of the ninth, and they were able to end May with a 500 record, split the series with the reigning world champs, and stay in contention in their league.

Now, do I really think the Braves have what it takes to make a World Series bid this year. No, my mind says no. But, every time they get up to bat my heart says anything’s possible.

By the time this is printed, the Braves will have played a little earlier than last week…as they are in Arizona early this week, and they will be home for a weekend series. I haven’t made it out to the ball field yet, but I will before the season is out, even if only once. In the meantime, I’ll continue to watch and hope.
