Summer
Many in our community were out and about on Memorial Day attending ceremonies to remember our fallen heroes, while others basked in the sun by pools and Jackson Lake and of course, grilled out. It’s beginning to look a lot like Summer is here.
Although it is nearly a month until summer officially starts on June 21st, Southerners push the envelope. And speaking of pushing the envelope, school is out and students are officially on vacation.
Parents and guardians will be counting off those 50-odd days until school bells ring again.
Do you remember those days when you had nothing better to do than to sit in a lounge chair in the sun or float aimlessly staring at the blue skies? Or when you got excited about Sundays when your parents would make real ice cream in a hand-cranked ice cream freezer? Good memories.
Make some memories for your children this summer! Each year I take my neighbor’s child to the Dairy Queen to celebrate his being promoted to another grade. He is now going to the eighth grade. Hope he never gets too grown.
Have a wonderful Summer, Monticello!
