Band Members Excel at JanFest

Jasper County High School (JCHS) junior Clay Evans was selected first chair in the Honor Symphonic Band at JanFest last weekend, placing him among the top 25 of all trumpet players in attendance.

Four JCHS band members attended the 65th annual January High School Band Festival (known as JanFest) at the University of Georgia. Taylor Edwards, Clay Evans, Austin Norwood and Will Robinson spent three days with over 1,000 high school band students rehearsing music and learning from guest conductors and musicians.

The weekend began Thursday afternoon with chair placement auditions and culminated on Sunday with performances of the music they learned throughout the festival. During their stay, students also heard concerts from high school bands and UGA ensembles, including the UGA Wind Ensemble.

All JCHS students did extremely well on their placement auditions. Trombones Taylor Edwards and Will Robinson both were fifth chair in their bands, and trumpet Austin Norwood was fourth chair in his band.

Taylor Edwards and Will Robinson will participate in District IV Honor Band in February, and Will Robinson will participate in the Georgia All-State Band.
