CITIZEN OF THE YEAR: The Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce announces that the Citizen of the Year nominations are now open. The 2014 Citizen of the Year will be announced at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting on Thursday, January 22, 2015.
The person submitting the nomination must provide their own contact information as well as the nominee’s. The 2014 nominee must reside in Jasper County to be eligible and previous Citizens of the Year are not eligible for nomination.
Entry forms must be completed and submitted to the Chamber of Commerce office at 119 West Washington Street, Monticello, Ga., by Thursday, January 9, 2015 for consideration. Forms are available at the Chamber office or online at www.jaspercountycoc.com .
SHOP LOCAL and WIN: The Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce sponsored a SHOP LOCAL and WIN Christmas tree filled with items donated from local businesses. The shop local campaign began on November 29th during Shop Small Saturday and in three weeks 108 sales receipt entries were turned in which generated $2,827.61 in local sales—(receipts represented 13 businesses). The winner was announced December 23. Linda Magness of Monticello (Jasper County) won the following items:

DEER FESTIVAL COMMITTEE MEETING: Would you like to serve on the 2015 Deer Festival committee…? The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 6 p.m. in the Visitors’ Center (Chamber of Commerce) at 119 West Washington Street. This is an 11 month commitment as the Deer Festival committee will meet monthly. This year’s festival is Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, the first weekend in November.
