Christmas Cards
Nary a Christmas card has darkened our mailbox so far this year. Maybe the holidays have just snuck up on everyone. Our card holder awaits.
Cards reflect the sender. The animal lovers always send cards with their favorite animal on it, a pug dog stuffed down in a Christmas stocking and to add insult to injury, the pug has lipstick on.
Many senders plan cards. There is never a card sent by these folks that does not include a photo of the family dressed in the same color or the same sweater. Everyone is grinning to beat the band.
Some also include the LETTER. It begins, “Howdy, it’s been a great year for us. We took a dream vacation to Douglasville and stopped at every Cracker Barrel ‘tween here and there. Mama is getting married again.” You know.
Have you ever noticed all the cards with snow? Churches with snow, farm houses with snow, ducks in the snow. Everything and everyone seems to be in the snow. Snow looks good on a card, but not so good when you have to drive to work. When was our last Christmas with snow?
Funny cards, 99 ways to survive the holiday, mistakes that Santa made last year, all supposed to be funny. Not.
The rest of the cards reflect religious themes mostly with angels, Christmas trees decorated next to a roaring fire, Monticello Bank with wreaths, or from your insurance agent.
Maybe today’s mail will include some of the above.
