Honor Society Holds Induction Ceremony
Jasper County High School inducted 23 students into the JCHS chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) in a ceremony held Monday at the school. Those students joined the nine returning members who were inducted last year.
Brandi McMichael, JCHS senior and president for FBLA and FCCLA, opened the ceremony with a welcome to students, parents and friends, and then expressed appreciation to the advisors for their support.
Amy Scroggs, NTHS advisor and Business & Computer Science teacher, introduced the Career, Technical & Agricultural Education (CTAE) teachers and explained the guidelines for acceptance into NTHS.
Seniors and returning NTHS members Devon Andrews, Tyler Cooper, Quincy Standifer, Morgan Studdard and Miss McMichael led in the candle-lighting ceremony as the meaning of each candle was explained.
Certificates and pins were presented to the NTHS inductees by CTAE teachers Robert Cobb, Gary Cooper, Heather Huff, Patty Cole and Buddy Cain. Mrs. Cole, Healthcare Science teacher, led the inductees in the NTHS Pledge of Membership.
NTHS members must have an 80 or above overall grade point average and an 85 or above in all Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) classes. Juniors and seniors must also be pursuing a career/technical pathway and must be actively involved in a career technical student organization (CTSO) at the school. CTAE departments at JCHS include Agriculture, Business & Computer Science, Family and Consumer Science, Healthcare Science Nursing, Technology and Engineering.
JCHS students inducted into the NTHS Monday were Stephen Arena, Chad Cain, Star Caldwell, Chenera Christian, Bryce Crawford, Brelan Crowe, Cheyanne Elliott, Clay Evans, Samantha Johnson, Kimberly Morgan, Anna Parker, Seth Pettis, Mary Phillips, Garrett Scroggs, and Caleb Usry.
Those not present for the induction ceremony but who were invited to join NTHS were Tayler Bowden, Briana Boyer, Autumn Denonn, Regan Duke, Kellie Evans, Kara Kelley, Cheyanne Kindem, and Rosemary Vargas.
In addition to those leading the candle ceremony, other NTHS members who were inducted last year were Selena Bautista, Kolby DeGarmo, Walt McMichael and Quinton Standifer.
NTHS members receive an honor cord to wear at graduation, an NTHS pin and tassel, and letters of reference for scholarships, college admission and job opportunities. The local NTHS chapter sponsors the senior seminar in the spring of each year.
