Marching ‘Canes Complete Competition Season
The Jasper County High School Marching Hurricanes competed in their final competition of the year at the Greater Atlanta Marching Festival held at Rockdale County High School on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The band placed third out of a field of eight bands in Class A.
“The Marching Hurricanes faced some of their toughest competition and judging of the year,” said Chris Savage, JCHS Director of Bands, “yet they still gave an outstanding performance and finished with great results!”
In addition to the overall band, the color guard finished in second place, and the drumline finished in third place with a superior score.
Drum Major Taylor Edwards received her second superior of the season and was awarded first place in Class A. In addition, her score put her in a tie for fourth place out of all 18 drum majors who competed throughout the day.
The Marching Hurricanes would like to thank all of the supporters who came out to cheer them on at the competition. The huge crowd support was evident, and the judges commented on the crowd response during the show.
Several Jasper County music events are upcoming. The Marching Hurricanes will make an appearance in the annual Deer Festival this Saturday, Nov. 1. The holiday concert season will begin with the Monticello Community Band concert on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Jasper County Courthouse. Under the direction of Jehan El-Jourbagy, this concert will feature community musicians, school faculty, and many high school band members.
On Monday, Dec. 8, Jasper County Primary School presents its December Fine Arts night featuring an art show and musical performance directed by Kim Savage. Then the Middle School band, under the direction of Ray Buck, will give a concert on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at the JCHS Theater.
The High School Band will perform on Thursday, Dec. 11, and will feature the JCHS Percussion Ensemble, Hurricane Breeze Steel Drum Band, and the JCHS Symphonic Band, all directed by Chris Savage.
Mr. Savage said, “Please continue to show support for the arts as we feature everything the music department has to offer!”
