Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
“Girls just wanna have fun…”, a famous line from a Cyndi Lauper song many years ago. It became the mantra of girls of all ages.
This past weekend some Jasper County “Girls” hit the road in search of the Big Three, Food, Fun and Fellowship and did they find it.
After a few wrong turns on unfamiliar back roads, we found Americus and its lovely Victorian mansion of a hotel, The Windsor. Hand-carved beams and ballasters, elegance revived from the late 1880s.
Next day, a pretty ride along roads lined with fields of fluffy white cotton led us to Colquitt to enjoy this years’ Swamp Gravy Production, the play, “Lost and Found”. Again, the locals pulled off a professional, well-polished play centering on personal histories.
Then on to spend the night at Perry in the New Perry Hotel. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in their antique-filled hotel dining room. Saturday nights fare included smoked ham with raisin sauce, fresh collards and delicate sweet potato fries sprinkled with powdered sugar.
By noon Sunday, we were crossing the Ocmulgee River bridge into Jasper County after making some more memories for the girl in every woman. Make yourself some memories.
