Orange Is Still the New Black

Although fall is not my favorite season when it comes to fashion, I must admit that I love the new trends. They are familiar and fun.

Who knew that the styles of the 80’s and 90’s would ever come back and be slimming and stylish? Leggings, chunky sweaters, boxy jackets and biker boots are back and look better than ever. If worn as intended—there are styles for all ages and body types.

A co-worker of mine, after sympathetically eyeing an overweight teen wearing skin tight leggings and a short shirt commented; “just because they make it in your size . . . “

And she was right! Wearing clothing that is too tight or too revealing doesn’t camouflage flaws—but rather accentuates them.

Don’t hate the cool weather or clothing of fall. Be brave, beautiful and sensible. Wear the latest trends with flare and look healthy and fit.

If you wear leggings—which by the way are not only for college aged girls—wear them with a finger tip length blouse, tunic or light sweater. Add a colorful scarf or chunky choker—and you will be runway ready.

Wide-legged trousers and palazzo pants are back in and better than ever. If you get the correct size and, more importantly, the right length, they are slimming and smart. Pair with a tucked-in printed oxford and pumps and your look will be complete and current.

You don’t have to ride a Harley to be cool. The short laced up biker boots that I thought I would never have to see again, are back with a vengeance. Worn with a colorful dress, skirt or leggings, these “combat” type boots can actually feel feminine and fun.

Lastly, and perhaps in part due to the popularity of the drama series; orange is, in fact, the new black. After years of resistance, I’ve decided there must be something to this trend. There are dozens of shades of orange from coral to rust. Find the shade that goes with your skin coloring.

With an accessory or two like a light wool coat or a chunky jeweled necklace, you’ll have that pop of color every wardrobe needs.

Be courageous and bold this season. Know your body type and fall into fashions that are practical, feminine and slimming. For more ideas and complete looks, go to allwomenstalk.com.
